The Nigeria Customs Service has seized 37 assorted Sports Utility Vehicles valued at N1.374bn. Comptroller General of the NCS, Col. Hameed Ali, (Rtd), said this in a chat with newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday. He said that 8 units of brand new 2017 model of Lexus LX570, and 12 units of 2017 model of Toyota Land Cruiser were among the seized cars. Others were 17 units of Toyota Hilux ranging from 2010 to 2019 models. The Customs CG said that the seizures were jointly made by the CGC’s Compliance Team and the Roving Team of the Federal Operations Unit in Lagos. He said, "Similarly, a total of 12,081 bags of smuggled parboiled rice with a duty paid value of N149m were seized. "Apart from the seizure of vehicles and rice, the reinvigorated anti smuggling operations yielded another 156 assorted seizures including bales of used clothing, Indian hemp, and used tyres." Three men accused of cyber crime and theft of N9.2m, property of Lagos State House Speaker, have been sent to Ikoyi Prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos, after they were docked. The men - Frank Nwokobia, 27, Ezeoke Kanayochukwu, 25, and Godwin Essien, 28 - were charged by the State CID of the Lagos Police Command. Police said the three men conspired to hack the Facebook account of the Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and also gained access to his account at Guaranty Trust Bank, where they stole his N9, 188,100. The men, arrested in Delta state, were all arraigned before Justice (Professor) Chuka Obiozor, on five count charge of conspiracy, impersonation, and theft. A 38yrs old lady, Blessing Igwe, has been arraigned before a Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja for allegedly battering her disabled husband and sending him packing from his own house for days. The wife, who was brought to court on Wednesday, was also alleged to have resisted arrest. Igwe, who reside at CBN Estate at Apo in Abuja, is facing a three-count charge of assault, criminal intimidation and resisting lawful arrest. The Prosecutor, Mr. Fidelix Ogbobe, said the complainant, one Robinson Igwe of Choos Estate, Apo reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on Aug. 2. A Naval personnel serving in Lagos, Uzochukwu Anyanwu, and his wife Victoria have both been arrested for allegedly beating a man, Gambo Mohammed, to death at Berger Suya bus-stop area of Oshodi-Apapa expressway. The naval personnel was said to have killed the deceased for trying to settle a rift between his wife and a yet to be identified commercial motorcyclist. Although Uzochukwu Anyawu has been handed over to Nigerian Navy, his wife, Victoria, is still being detained at the Homicide Section of the State CID, Panti, Lagos. A police source said since Anyanwu was handed over to the Navy, naval authorities have refused to hand him back to the police to conclude their own investigation. The source alleged that the police have vowed to arraign the wife if the navy continues to hold on to the suspect. An Egyptian court on Monday sentenced 12 former supporters of President Mohamed Morsi to death over storming Matay police station and killing its chief in 2013, official MENA news agency reported . Meanwhile , 140 defendants had been sentenced to life in the same case , while 238 others were acquitted , according to the MENA . The case dates back to mid -2013 , when members of Muslim Brotherhood broke into Matay police station in Upper Egypt ’s Minya Province, killing the station ’ s chief in retaliation for the police ’s harsh crackdown on the supporters of Morsi who was ousted by the army in response to a mass protest against him. Morsi along with prominent figures of his Brotherhood group was sentenced to death for killing protesters , spying for foreign countries amid other charges pending appeals.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insists he cannot stop Eden Hazard from leaving Chelsea.         Barcelona have been linked with a move for the Belgian and could step up their interest on Hazard if their bid to land Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool does not come to fruition. After losing Nemanja Matic to Manchester United – a move which Conte did not want to happen – the Italian says decisions over Hazard’s future will not be made by him but by “the club”.
